A family stay visa is a visa obtained when a spouse or child who is dependent on a person who has a work visa or student visa in Japan lives together in Japan.

Dependent means that, as a general rule, the couple live together and are financially dependent on the other person, and the child is in a state of custody and care. Therefore, even children over the age of 20 will be included in the family stay visa if they are dependent on their parents. However, if your spouse or child earns a certain amount of income, you will need to apply for a change to another visa.

Please note that the spouse in this case is the person who is currently married, and the wife, husband, fiancée, etc. of the inner family do not meet the requirements for obtaining a family stay visa. Parents, nieces, nephews, etc. are not included in the family in this case.

When inviting parents or relatives, apply for a short-term stay visa or a visa for specific activities.

In addition, the scope of activities of those who have a family stay visa is limited to daily activities, so in principle, employment activities are not possible.

However, if you receive permission for activities outside the status of qualification, you can work part-time within 28 hours a week. However, it is not possible to work part-time in customs business or sex (cavalry, dance hall, bar where customers entertain and eat and drink, mahjong stores, pachinko parlors, private room massages, etc.).

Currently, there are many requests from international students to call their spouse, but when an international student calls their spouse, only part-time jobs are allowed because they are students, and their income is not stable. From the point of view, getting a visa is very difficult.

Therefore, it is necessary to have a certain amount of deposits and savings and to have a remittance amount of around 200,000 yen.
